Habeo is building the IT asset management and CMDB platform designed specifically for higher education, replacing ServiceNow ITAM with a system that natively understands GASB depreciation, grant compliance, and university IT workflows. We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help design and scale the systems that power our institutional asset ledger, CMDB relationship graph, and integrations with MDM and HRIS platforms used across college and university campuses.
This role is 100% remote. Habeo is remote-first and accepts applicants located anywhere in the world.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power Habeo's asset ledger and CMDB graph
- Develop and maintain integrations with third-party systems such as MDM providers, HRIS platforms, and identity providers
- Own data models for complex, relational asset, people, and grant data with an emphasis on auditability and correctness
- Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability as data volume and customer count grow
- Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews with other engineers
- Collaborate with product and frontend engineers to ship features end to end
What we're looking for
- Several years of professional experience building backend systems in a production environment
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language such as Python, Go, Java, Node.js, or Ruby
- Experience designing relational database schemas and writing efficient queries (PostgreSQL or similar)
- Familiarity with building and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and standard deployment practices
- Solid understanding of data integrity, audit trails, and building systems that must be correct and traceable
Nice to have
- Experience integrating with third-party SaaS APIs (MDM, HRIS, or identity providers)
- Experience working with graph-structured or relationship-heavy data models
- Background working with enterprise or B2B software, especially in regulated or compliance-heavy industries
- Familiarity with SSO/SAML implementations or audit-log/compliance requirements
